October 2, 1835 marked the beginning of the Texas Revolution.

After nearly ten years of conflict, the Texans finally took up arms and began fighting with the Mexican military.

President Santa Anna threw out the constitution and became a dictator.

In an effort to take complete control of Texas, he began to try and recover all military equipment in Texas. They demanded that settlers give up their cannons.

Francisco Castaneda and a group of 100 Mexican soldiers arrived in Gonzales. Their goal was to get the cannon.

No Texans lost their lives during the battle. Accepting defeat, Mexican soldiers returned to San Antonio.

There was no turning back for Texans. The Texas Revolution had begun.

More troops arrived. Americans decided to attack.

Castaneda had been ordered to not make a mess. They couldn't reach an agreement so he decided to give up and leave.
