Based off our previous lessons, how are plant adaptations related to a biome's climate? Include a specific example!

-Thin, big, broad, light-weight leaves that can capture sunlight to make food in warm weather
-Trees have thick bark to protect against cold winters
-Trees drop leaves in the colder seasons to minimize water loss

Adaptations Temperate Deciduous Forest

Trees have cone shape so snow falls off.
branches are flexible to hold large amounts of snow and not break.
trees are thin and close together to protect from cold and wind
needles are waxy for protection from freezing temps. and to prevent drying out
needles are present year round and deep green to absorb the max. warmth from the sun.
thick bark that does not easily burn and protects inner layers from heat and cones to protect the seeds.

Adaptations Taiga

● Strong root systems allows regrowth after grazing, trampling by herbivores (Bison).
● Above ground growth dies and decays making rich soil.

Grassland

Many plants have roots that grow deep in the ground, where the most water can be found. This defense also allows the plant to survive fires because the root is undamaged and can regrow after the fire.
