Context Clues

Learning Target

As a learner I will be able to use context clues to help figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words.   

Types of Context Clues

• Definition- explained/stated in simple way

• Synonym- similar word/ restatement

• Antonym- opposite meaning of the word

• Example- an example of the word is given

• Inference- showing relationships to word

Be a Word Detective

Look around an unknown word for clues that the author may have included to help them figure out the meaning.

These clues are called context clues.
