Hello to everyone. I am your English Teacher: In this week we are going to learn about the Verb TO BE. Please take notes about the information that I will provide you. (Hola a todos, Soy su docente de Inglés: en esta semana vamos a aprender acerca del verbo TO BE. Por favor toma notas acerca de la informacion que voy a proveerles.)

wHAT IS vERB to be? ¿Qué es el verbo to be?

​tO BE: sER/ESTAR

Para entender el verbo TO BE (AM, IS, ARE), debemos tener en cuenta que este verbo se complementa con los pronombres personales en Inglés (I, You, He, She, It, We, They). Por ejemplo:

I Am (Yo soy/ Yo estoy)

YOU Are (Tu eres/ Tu estás--Ustedes son/Ustedes están)

HE Is (Él es/ Él esta)

SHE Is (Ella es/Ella está)

IT Is (Esto es/Esto está)

WE are (Nosotros somos/Nosotros estamos)

THEY are (Ellos son/Ellos están)

I am happy. (Estoy feliz)

I am Mariana. (Soy Mariana)

You are my friend. (Tu eres mi amigo)

You are in Spain. ( Estás en España)

He is my father. (Él es mi papá)

He is in the School. (Él está en la escuela)

She is my sister. (Ella es mi hermana)

She is in the hospital. (Ella está en el hospital)

It is my pet. (Es mi mascota)

We are students. ( Somos estudiantes)

We are in the park. (Estamos en el parque)

we use to be for saying ages Usamos el verbo to para decir edades

El verbo "To Be" también significa "tener" cuando nos referimos a la edad y a estados de la persona. Por ejemplo:

YO TENGO 19 AÑOS DE EDAD----->I am 19 years old.

TU TIENES 10 AÑOS DE EDAD------>You are 10 years old.

EL TIENE 20 AÑOS DE EDAD------->He is 20 years old.

ELLA TIENE 15 AÑOS DE EDAD-----> She is 15 years old.

NOSOTROS TENEMOS 25 AÑOS DE EDAD-------> We are 25 years old.

ELLOS TIENEN 12 AÑOS DE EDAD------> They are 12 years old.

TENGO HAMBRE-----> I am hungry (Estado de la persona)

*Recuerda no confudir "Have" con el verbo "To be", ya que Have significa tener pero con objetos de pertenencia. Ejemplo: I have a car (Tengo un carro) I have a house (Tengo una casa

I am not Mary./I'm not Mary

You are not a doctor. /You aren´t a doctor

She is not beautiful./She isn´t beautiful.

We are not Students./We aren´t students.

nEGATIVE

I am Maria./Ì´m Maria

You are a doctor./You´re a doctor

She is beatiful./She's beautiful

We are students./We´re students

Interrogative

• Como puedes ver, podemos afirmar oraciones con el verbo to be de manera extensa (I am Mary) o de manera corta (I´m Maria).

• Para negar oraciones con el verbo to be (AM, IS, ARE) solamente añadimos NOT (You are not Mary), y también podemos negar de manera corta (You aren´t Mary)

• Para expresar algo en forma de pregunta con el verbo To Be simplemente cambiamos de posición el verbo con el Pronombre (Are you Mary? )
