THE TWO KINGDOMS
The 10 northern tribes rebelled against the government in Jerusalem once King Solomon died.
These tribes founded or made a separate kingdom of Israel with this capital being Samaria
The two left in the south founded the kingdom of Judah.
Both kingdoms kept the Israelite religion
Because both kingdoms were small and weak the Assyrians and Chaldeans wanted to take over the trade routes that ran through both kingdoms. Both Kingdoms felt threatened by the Chaldeans and the Assyrians.

The Fall of Israel
The assyrians spread fear throughout the region
They conquered people, made them pay tribute and destroyed towns, burned estates and took valuable goods if tribute was not paid.
Conquered people was then forced to move and make new settlements
The Assyrians captured the Kingdom of Isreal and its capital at Samaria trying for absolute control when they refused to pay tribute.
They forced some Israelites to resettle in the Assyrian Empire and some Assyrian people to settle in Israel. This caused a mingled and mixed culture.
The new mixed people became known as The Samaritans

Adopted many of the Israelites religious beliefs
Worshipped the God of Israel, Read the Torah and followed the religious laws.
However, they adopted religious practices that the other Israelites did not accept.
This made them have little in common with the Israelites
Judaism today developed from the religious practices of Judah

Jewish Prophets also teach that connecting to God means leading moral life and helping others.
