Polygons derive their names from Greek. In fact, the word ‘polygon’ is made from two
Greek words – ‘poly’ (meaning many) and ‘gon’ (meaning angle).
The first part of a 2-D shape’s name is a Greek word for a number, followed by the word
‘angle’ or the Greek equivalent, ‘gon’.
