は Topic or Subject marker

Read as 'wa' not 'ha’ when it is a particle.

は is the topic of a sentence. It is used at the start of a sentence and tells us

に with time

に indicates a specific point of time such as at a clock time, on a day of the
week, in a month, for a meal time.

六時 に おきます。I wake up at 6:00

どようび に スポーツ を します。I play sport on Saturday

五月 に いきます。I will go in May.

ひるごはん に ぎゅうにゅう を のみます。I drink milk for lunch.

に　with verbs of ‘going’, ‘going home’ and

entering or getting into

に also means ‘to’ a place. It follows the place in a sentence that ends with

いきます (go)　かえります (go home)

E.g 学校 に いきます。 I go to school

うち に かえります。I go (to) home

を object marker

を follows the noun in an activity sentence. However, it is used as part of the action, it doesn’t
take action itself. Its role is passive.

テニス を します。I play tennis.

E.g. Kenta performs the action (eats) but the sushi is what he eats.

けんたくん は まいにち すし を たべます。Kenta eats sushi every day.

の joining particle

の means ‘belongs to’. It is also joining two nouns together in this case.

E.g. わたし の なまえ my name

ともだち の うち a friend’s house

の can also mean ‘belongs to’ a country. Again, it joins two nouns

日本の means ‘belongs to’ Japan = Japanese.

E.g 日本 の まんが Japanese comics.

の also makes two-part or compound nouns.

E.g まち の こうえん city park 学校 の コンピューター school computer

で at a place

で tells us the place where we do an activity. It often translates as ‘at’ a place.

E.g. 学校でともだちとひろごはんをたべます。I eat lunch with a friend at school.
