Leif Erikson was a Viking. What do you think a Viking is/was?

The first tale is ​Leif got lost on his mission to bring Christianity to Greenland. He landed near Nova Scotia or Canada. The second tale is someone told Leif about "Vinland" or the area near Canada. Once they were there they found other places like Markland and Helluland. They think the second tale is the truth.

Vikings had reached the Americas way before Columbus first arrived. Columbus was confused on his voyage in 1492 and when he got to what is now known as the Bahamas, he met the natives there and called them Indians. He named the place San Salvador.

Ferdinand Magellan

Was the first to sail around the world.

He was attempting to find another route to Asia. There were 270 men and five ships named: the Santiago, the Victoria, the Concepcion, the Trinidad, and the San Antonio.

As Magellan sailed, the weather turned cold and bad. The also had not brought enough food. Some people got so upset they tried to steal some of the ships.

Magellan....

After all of that happened, he found the passage he was seeking. He called the passage the All Saints' Channel. Today, it is called the Straits of Magellan. When he left, he entered into a new ocean on the other side of the new world. He called the ocean the Pacifico, meaning peaceful. He thought it would only take a few days to cross the ocean, but it took four months.
