It’s a rock.
It’s made of a type of sandstone called
‘arkose’.

348m tall and a circumference (if you
walked around it) of 9.4km.

First things first: what is so special about
Uluru?
It sticks out in the middle of
nowhere.
This is called an ‘inselberg’, which means
“mountain island”.

Uluru brings in millions of dollars of tourist dollars every year.
So it has ‘economic’ (money) value.
Some of that money goes to the local Indigenous community.
Aboriginal elders welcome visitors from all over the world to learn about
their culture and history. So, to Australians and to the local community, it
has cultural value as an important landform.

tourists can climb the
rock as long as they are
told (with a sign and with

to maintain the beaches, so they make a
lot of money from things like carparks.
