Intro to Specialist Project

Preparing for 2nd Year

Aims and Objectives​

• Discover the 2nd Year Module – Specialist project

• Identify how it is run and how it is different from other modules

• Begin forward planning for specialist project​

• Use our time wisely to get a head start on 2nd year

​Aim's

Aims are statements of intent. They set out what you hope to achieve at the end of the project.

​Objective's

Objectives, on the other hand, should be specific statements that define measurable outcomes

This module is different​

• You are given briefs and tasks for every other module and in

  those assignments, you are told what to write

  ​

  ​

• You are given lessons on information to remember for every

  other module that you then have to regurgitate in exams

  ​

  ​

• In Specialist Project, that is not the case.

  ​

  ​

• Specialist Project becomes your responsibility

  ​

• ​Your success in this module depends on how you manage your

  time

So what is it then?​

• A module that you lead yourself.

  ​

  ​

• A module you can specialise in

  ​

  ​

• A module you can choose what to learn about

  ​

• ​

  A module you can really shine in

  ​

• A module you can discover your passions

  ​

  ​

• A module you prove your independence

It’s up to you!​

In specialist project you will be asked to come up with your own ideas, this is not the type of module where we can tell you the answers as funnily enough, answers do not exist!

​You will identify what you are interested in

• You will then find a question you want to answer

• You will then come up with a way to answer it(Experimenting)

  ​

• You will then collect your results

• You will then report what you found

​Students often say “we don’t learn enough about this, I want to learn more about that” etc etc etc, well in specialist project, You have the opportunity to learn about what you want as its upto you!

​You don’t need to be completing it or starting data collection, but you need to think of a question you want to try and answer

It’s up to you!​

Use this time to come up with a topic that you enjoy and some ideas that you may want to look into.

​Here are some ideas that we have from past year:

​You need to ensure it is in the environmental and land-based sector and relevant to your programme of study

​On your teams you will see a document called College cert tracking there is one for each of your college certificates each week i want you to monitor your progress using a RAG rate system
