Topic Sentence

This is a sentence that begins the paragraph. It should state what the paragraph
will be about.

Topic sentences do not have any quotations.

Examples/Quotes/Evidence

Your examples will be your quotes and paraphrased information that helps you
support your topics sentence and prove your thesis statement.

The amount of evidence/ quotes you provide depends on the essay assignment
(somewhere between 1-3 quotes is typical)

Explanations

Your explanation needs to dig deeper and explain the connection between your
topic sentence and your evidence. If you get stuck, focus on explaining a word or
phrase from the quote.

Transition

Use this area to transition from one topic to the next if you are writing an essay
or provide a concluding statement.
