What are Prefixes?
Prefixes in German
In German, a prefix is something that you add before a verb. Adding a prefix changes the meaning of the verb.

bekommen - to recieve
3
Inseparable prefixes
Inseparable prefixes just stay together with the verb.
verstehen - Ich verstehe den Mann.
There are special rules however.
4
Rule 1
Emphasis on the verb
In inseparable prefixes, the emphasis goes on the verb. NOT the prefix.
Ich verSTEHe den Mann.
5
Rule 2
No ge- in the Partizip II
In making the Partizip II, NO ge- is added to the verb. If the main verb has a stem change in the Partizip II, only the main verb changes and not the prefix.
