What do we mean when we say market?

A market is a place where things are bought and sold. You may have visited an outdoor farmer's market before. Local growers bring fresh fruits and vegetables to the market to sell. People from the community come to the market to buy these goods.

3

A market can also be a store inside a building. The store may have some local things for sale but many of the items came from different places. Canned and jarred foods may have come from the United States. Toys and electronics most likely came from other countries.

A market is NOT always a physical place. It can also be an imaginary area where trade happens. For example, the American housing market is not an actual place. It refers to the buying and selling of all houses in America.
