Causative form (Câu truyền khiến bị động)

have something done

have somebody do

We use“havesomething done” or “have somebody do”form when we talk about someone doing something for us which we ask or instruct them to do. It emphasizes the process/action rather than who performs it.

Example:

Guest: Hello! I’d like to have my shirt and pants ironed. I’m having a conference at 8 a.m.

Housekeeper: Yes, of course. I’ll send someone up to collect it at once.

Example:

Guest: Good morning! I’d like to have an extra pillow. Could you also bring me a tube of toothpaste and more clean towels?

Housekeeper: Certainly. I’ll have someone bring up those things right away. Is there anything else we can do for you?

Guest: No, that’s everything.

3

Structures need/ want/ would like + object + past participle (V-pp) Example: Guest: I need my clothes cleaned. Housekeeper: Yes, sir. Is there anything else you want me to do for you? Guest: If you could iron some shirts and pants, I’d appreciate it. Housekeeper: We can do that for you.

4

need + V-ing

Something needs doing (= something needs to be done)-một việc gì đó cần được làm.

Example:

Guest: My shirt needs pressing and I want it returned in thirty minutes.

Housekeeper: Certainly, I’ll do that for you right away.
