Must/should

Must või should?

Must ja should on modaalverbid, ehk nad abistavad meil väljendada mida võiks või peaks tegema

Kasutame modaalverbi should kui tahame öelda, et keegi võiks midagi tegema, aga kohustust pole. Kasutame should'i, et anda inimestele nõu.

Näiteks: "You should read this book. It's good!"

"We should dance tonight! It will be fun!"

"I really should study for this test if I want to pass."

Peale should'i lauses tuleb tegusõna oma baasvormis. Näiteks mitte: "We should to sing this song.", vaid "We should sing this song."

"to" tuleb vaid nimisõna ette kui räägime kuhugi minemisest, ehk "go". Näiteks: "We should go to the store (poodi - nimisõna)."

Näiteks, mitte: "She should is happy she got a new car." vaid: "She should be happy she got a new car."

Mitte: "He should reads this book." vaid: "He should read this book."

Negatiivne should vorm on shouldn't.

Näiteks: "I shouldn't eat this pear. It's rotten."

"They shouldn't go to bed at midnight!"

Negatiivne must vorm on mustn't.

Näiteks: "I mustn't cross the road when the light is red."

"He mustn't hit his brother!"

Kasutame modaalverbi must kui tahame öelda, et keegi peab midagi tegema. See on kohustuslik. Lauses tuleb peale must modaalverbi ka tegusõna, mida peab tegema/järgima.

Näiteks: "You must wear a hat if you go in the sun!"

"She must drive carefully at night - it's dark!"

"We must follow the rules in the museum!"

Peale must'i lauses tuleb tegusõna oma baasvormis. Näiteks mitte: "We must to eat this soup.", vaid "We must eat this soup."

"to" tuleb vaid nimisõna ette kui räägime kuhugi minemisest, ehk "go". Näiteks: "We must go to school (kooli - nimisõna)."

Näiteks, mitte: "She must is ready to go to school." vaid: "She must be ready to go to school."

Mitte: "He must puts up this tent." vaid: "He must put up this tent."
