F117 engine is a dual spool, axial flow, high bypass ratio turbofan engine

Dual spool means two compressors

Axial flow means the air entering the engine flows along the long axis of engine

High bypass means the engine produces two airlfows

Primary airflow (core)

Secondary airflow (fan)

F117 engine can produce 41,700 lbs. of thrust at takeoff

Data plate on Engine lists the amount of thrust produced at 40,900

Core F117 engine weighs 7160 lbs.

L&S pump scavenges oil from main gearbox and sends it back to oil tank
located at 8 o’clock position

L&S Pump lubricates and scavenges the five main engine bearings

Secondary Hydraulic Pump

Works just like the Primary
Pump

If the Primary Pump drops
below 3800 psi the
secondary pump will
automatically turn on

EEC Alternator/Permanent Magnet
Alternator (PMA)

(PMA) powers the EEC.

The PMA also converts the rotation of the N2 into an electrical signal interpreted by the EEC as N2
rotation.

N2 is displayed on the MFD expanded engine page and the SED.

There is one “blue” and one “green” wire cannon plug connection on the PMA. Blue and green wire
cannon plug connections indicate these wires are connected to the EEC and only the EEC.

flight station.

The IDG has its own oil
system and cooling circuit.
