11
Probability of Simple Events
Part (want).
Total (have)
***Always reduce/simplify
12
For example...
IF I toss a quarter, what is the probability that I will get heads? This is really asking what is the chance that I will land on heads?
13
What is the probability?
When you toss a coin, the chance that it will land on heads is 1 out of 2. This is because there is 1 side that is heads and there are two total options.
14
Different ways to write probability
You could say that there is a 1/2 chance or 1 out of 2 chance or 50% chance
15
Probability of the Spinner
Look at the spinner at your right.
How many possible outcomes are there?
16
Multiple Select
What is the probability of the spinner landing on blue?
2/10
1/5
2/8
1/2

Multiple Choice
Mrs. Trevino has 3 red pens, 5 pink pens, and 8 blue pens. What is the probability that she will choose a blue pen to grade papers?
1/2
8
3/16
16/8
19
Multiple Choice
A bag contains 15 yellow cubes, 6 blue cubes, and 4 red cubes. If you select a cube at random, what is the probability the cube will NOT be yellow?
25/15
2/5

5/3
20
How do you know if it is a complement problem?
When it says: Not [event]
Ex: What is the probability of Not rolling a number greater than 4?
Ex: P(Not greater than 4)
21
Multiple Choice
What is the probability of Not spinning blue?
P(Not Blue) = 1/4
P(Not Blue) = 1/2
P(Not Blue) = 2/3
P(Not Blue) = 3/4
22
Multiple Choice
What is the probability of NOT rolling a Prime Number?
0/6
1/6
1/2
1/3
23
Theoretical vs Experimental Probability
24
Multiple Choice
Theoretical Probability is:
What will happen
What should happen
What I want to happen
What does happen
25
Theoretical Probability
26
Experimental Probability
27
Multiple Choice
Experimental Probability is:
What will happen
What should happen
What I think happens
What does happen
28
Multiple Choice
inThe bar graph shows the results of spinning the spinner 200 times. What is the experimental probability of landing on a 3?
