​Let's take a closer look at each of these modal verbs and their uses:

​Can: used to express ability, possibility, or permission.

Examples:

  1. I can speak Spanish fluently.

  2. Can you pass me the salt, please?

  3. She can run a marathon in less than three hours.

​Could: used to express a past ability or possibility, or a polite request.

Examples:

  1. I could play the piano when I was younger.

  2. Could you please close the door?

  3. He could have won the race if he had trained harder.

​May: used to express permission or possibility.

Examples:

  1. May I go to the bathroom?

  2. It may rain later today.

  3. He may be late for the meeting.

​Might: used to express a slight possibility or uncertainty.

Examples:

  1. I might go to the party tonight.

  2. It might be too late to catch the bus.

  3. She might not be able to attend the conference.

​Must: used to express strong obligation or necessity.

Examples:

  1. You must arrive at the airport two hours before your flight.

  2. We must finish this project by Friday.

  3. She must wear a helmet while riding her bike.

​Shall: used to make suggestions or to express future actions.

Examples:

  1. Shall we go out for dinner tonight?

  2. I shall call you tomorrow.

  3. We shall meet at the park at 2pm.

​Should: used to express advice, obligation, or expectation.

Examples:

  1. You should see a doctor if you are feeling sick.

  2. They should arrive at the airport early to avoid delays.

  3. She should apologize for being late.

​Will: used to express future actions or predictions.

Examples:

  1. I will visit my grandparents next weekend.

  2. The weather will be sunny tomorrow.

  3. They will win the game if they play well.

​Would: used to express past habits, conditional actions, or polite requests.

Examples:

  1. When I was younger, I would play soccer every weekend.

  2. If I had more time, I would travel the world.

  3. Would you mind turning down the music?
