​Pop Music

​Pop music is a type of music that many people like to listen to. The word "pop" is used for any popular music, but especially for music that was written to be popular. The term "pop music" was used from about 1880 onwards, when new kinds of music became popular. Modern pop music began with the 1950s' Rock and Roll (most famously Elvis Presley). In the 1960s, The Beatles coined what we understand as 'pop'. Styles of pop music in the 2020s also include rock music, electronic dance music and hip hop.
