Per Capita GDP - What Is It?

  • Standard of living is usually measured in GDP (Gross Domestic Product).

  • Gross Domestic Product is normally split into 'per capita' which means the total GDP for a population divided by how many adults are in that population.

Task 1 - Find out what Gross Domestic Product is, and put it in your own words into a Word document.

Task 2 - Find out what Scotland's per capita GDP is and make a record of it in the same Word doc.

Go on to the internet and search for a list of different countries' quality of life. First of all - can you find one? If you can, where does Scotland come (if you can't find Scotland, use the UK.

Now use the OECD website you just used to check out the country/region you chose for the previous exercise. The OECD doesn't cover the whole world so you may have to choose a different country if yours is not in the list.

In your Word document, paste both Scotland's and the other region's Well-Being factors (Environment, Income, Health, Safety etc) and compare them.
