ENERGY FORMS AND
TRANSFORMATION
2
ACTIVITY 1
•In
pairs
share
your
understanding of energy
and its importance in
everyday life.

LESSON OBJECTIVE
• By the end of this lesson, the
learners
should
be
able
to
explain various forms of energy
and
ways
of
transformation
of
energy from one form to another.
5
WORD OF THE DAY
6
FORMS OF ENERGY
• The different forms of energy
include: thermal energy, chemical
energy, nuclear energy, electrical
energy, mechanical energy, sound
energy,
elastic
energy
and
gravitational energy, etc.
7
ACTIVITY 3
• Observe simulation and respond to the following
questions:
❖Describe what you see.
❖What do you suppose will occur when you turn
on the tap?
❖If you replace a water tap with a solar panel,
what do you suppose would happen?
❖When bicycle is used in their place, what do you
suppose will happen?

ENERGY TRANSFORMATION
• energy
transfer,
also
known
as
energy
transformation, is the transfer of energy from one
form to another.
• like in a hydroelectric power plant that transforms
the mechanical energy of water into electrical
energy.
• While energy can be transferred or transformed, the
total amount of energy does not change this is called
energy conservation.
9
EXAMPLES OF ENERGY TRANSFORMATION
• Friction (Kinetic energy → Heat)
• Electric heater (Electric energy → Heat)
• Photosynthesis (Electromagnetic radiation → Chemical
energy)
• Hydroelectric dams (Gravitational potential energy →
Electrical energy)
• Electric generator (Kinetic energy or Mechanical
energy → Electrical energy)
10
CONT’D
• Fuel cells (Chemical energy → Electrical energy)
• Battery (Chemical energy → Electrical energy)
• Fire (Chemical energy → Heat and Light)
• Electric lamp (Electrical energy → Heat and
Light)
• Microphone (Sound → Electrical energy)
• Windmills (Wind energy → Electrical energy or
Mechanical energy)
