Weathering is the process by which rocks are broken down into sediments slowly over time. The two major types of weathering are: chemical and mechanical.

Erosion

Weathering breaks down rocks into sediments, and the process of Erosion moves the sediments to other locations. Some agents of Erosion are: flowing water, glaciers, wind, and gravity.

When sediments erode they get deposited into horizontal layers called strata.
