Finding slope in word problems:

Another word for slope is the constant rate of change. Or in more simple terms, how much something changes with respect to time. To find the slope in a word problem, we need to find out what number is being affected by time. It is usually identified by words such as "every month, per year, each hour, each minute, etc..."

.

Audrey has $500 in her bank account and she makes $25 per hour. Identify the constant rate of change (slope) in the problem.

14

Multiple Choice

What is the constant rate of change in this problem:

Kelsey has 100 balls in her bag. Every minute she throws 3 balls out of her bag.

(Note: The equation would be regarding the amount of balls in Kelsey's bag.)

1

m = 100

2

m = -100

3

m = 3

4

m = -3

15

Open Ended

Write a situation that has a constant rate of change. Identify your constant rate of change by writing m = __.
