The Regions of the British Colonies

Introduction - Read All
You and your group members are enterprising young English
People who are moving to the new world to settle and make
some cash money. You’ve decided that each of the four of you
are going to move to a different region of Colonial America and
settle for one year. At the end of that year, you are going to try
and persuade each other to move to your region.
Step one is to decide who from your group is moving to each
region. Assign a name next to each region, and that person will
be responsible for traveling there and becoming an expert.

You will each be responsible for two pieces. One, is a letter
where you will outline the major characteristics of your region to
your group. The second is an infographic that depicts key
features of your colonial region.
★
This assignment is meant to be fun, and light hearted but it is
imperative to acknowledge that many colonies relied on
slavery at this time, which is neither fun nor lighthearted.
★
As such, while you are outlining the characteristics of your
colony, I want you to identify how that colony utilized slavery,
but do not glorify, encourage, or condone the use of slavery.
★
All of your “pretend people’ are abolitionists.

Instructions
Part One: Graphic
You may use google draw, canva, piktochart, whatever you want to create this drawing.
You will submit a screenshot or link to it into the appropriate slide in this slideshow.
Graphic should include:

Name of the colony you settled in.
❏
Region your colony is in.
❏
A slogan that represents your colony.
❏
Two pictures or drawings that represent specific aspects of your colony with an
explanation
❏
The primary economic practices of your region/colony (farming, shipbuilding, trade,
etc.) - Picture or words.
❏
Anything else that your heart desires that is appropriate to the task at hand.
Part Two: Letter
You are writing a letter to your group members discussing what life has been like in
your colony.
Letter should include:
❏
Your job, and why. What kind of industry is important to your region?
❏
A very short history of your colony./region (why was it founded?)
❏
The geography of your region and how that has impacted life.
❏
The crops you can find most easily in your colony and why.
❏
What kinds of people live near you (immigrants, religions, etc.)
❏
At least one drawback to living in your region.
❏
How slavery is incorporated into your colony/region (remember you’re an abolitionist)
❏
Overall, do you think your group should move to your region?
❏
Anything else that your heart desires that is appropriate to the task at hand.
