Present Progressive

Que es un el Present Progressivo verbo? (What is a Present Progressive verb)

A present progressive verb is used when saying that an action is being done at the moment.

Ex:Jesse is eating her burger.

Here, eating is the present progressive verb because it is being used to say that something (the burger) is being eaten right now. Now let´s learn how to do this in Spanish.

Present Progressivo Para -ar

​When a verb is present progressive, there are a couple of rules to follow.

For -ar verbs, the rule ESTAR + participle is used. In the case of -ar, the participal will be -ando. The steps for putting an -ar verb into present progressive for are:

1. Choose the correct

   ESTAR conjugation

Estoy​	​Estamos
​Estás	​Estáis
​Está	​Están

Present Progressive Para -ar

2.Drop the infinitive ending on the second verb

3. Finally, replace the dropped ending with -ando

Ex: Nosotros ___ ____ los ingredientes. (mezclar)

Answer: estamos mezclando

Present Progressive for -er and -ir

Verbs ending in -er and -ir follow a similar set of rules to -ar. However, instead of -ando we use -iendo.

I --> Y rule

There is one special rule to follow for present progressive, the I to Y rule.

If the letter i falls between two vowels, it will change to a y.

​Ex: caer --> cayendo

poseer --> poseyendo
