​What are syllables?

Let's break it down!

​The word syllable comes from the old Greek language! Another word for old is ancient, but that's when its really old. The Greek language is ancient!

A long time ago, when it was the Greek word, συλλαβή, it meant "the taken together."

Now, it means one part of a word with a vowel sound in it.

Did you know? Did you know that some English words are from other languages like Greek? Do you know what languages mean?
