First trimestre Guide for 7th grade COLSA DAVID
2
Simple Present
USES
The simple present is a verb tense with two main uses. We use the simple present tense when an action is happening right now, or when it happens regularly (or unceasingly, which is why it’s sometimes called present indefinite). Depending on the person, the simple present tense is formed by using the root form or by adding or to the end.
3
Simple Present
EXAMPLES
I feel great!
Pauline loves pie.
I’m sorry to hear that you’re sick.
4
Simple Present
USES
The other is to talk about habitual actions or occurrences.
Examples
Pauline practices the piano every day.
Ms. Jackson travels during the summer.
Hamsters run all night.
5
Present Progressive/continuous
USES
To talk about ongoing actions/actions in progress at the moment of speaking.
6
Present Progressive/continuous
Examples
I am watching TV right now.
Maria is cleaning the house at this moment.
My parents are working today.
7
Simple Past
USES
We use the simple past to talk about things that already happened or existed before now.
8
Simple Past
Examples
Wolfgang entered a hula hoop contest.
He won the silver medal.
9
Past Progressive/continuous
USES
The past continuous tense, also known as the past progressive tense, describes ongoing actions in the past, such as I was writing my research paper all night. It uses the same construction as the present continuous tense except with the past tense of the verb to be.
10
Past Progressive/continuous
EXAMPLES
You were becoming a great novelist before switching to screenplays.
The days were getting shorter as winter approached.
They were sleeping peacefully until the alarm rang.
