A skunk kit has no fur at birth, but its skin has black and white markings. It cannot see or hear when it is first born. It sleeps and drinks milk made by its mom. It grows fast. It can see, hear, and walk by the time it is four weeks old. It has fur by that time, too.

Skunk kits can leave the den with their mom when they are six weeks old. The kits trot in a line after her.

This mother skunk took her kits hunting. Her kits will stop drinking milk soon, so she must make sure they can find food. Skunks eat insects, slugs, eggs, and plants.

Mom Skunk brings her kits back to the den. The den is a safe and snug place for them to rest. Mom and her kits curl up to take a nap.

When the skunk kits get big, they will make dens. They will hunt at night on their own. One day, they will bring up little skunk kits and keep them safe and snug.
