A car can’t fit in a bathtub, but you can still wash it. How can you get a car clean?
My dad and I take our dirty car to the car wash. That’s a place for cleaning cars. The car goes in with mud and grime on it, and it comes out bright and clean!
3
This car wash is open. We can drive right into it. We must stay inside the car and keep all the windows shut.
The car rides on a track that moves. Water jets get it all wet. Next, soap shoots out to clean off the grime. Then more water washes off the soap. All clean!
4
This is another kind of car wash. It has people who clean the dirty cars. They use soap and water and rub the cars to get off all the dust and dirt. Then they dry them off by hand using soft, clean cloths.
Dirty water and soap go down drains into tanks. Doing this helps keep rivers and lakes clean.
5
Another kind of car wash is called a self- wash. That means we can do the washing. We drop coins in slots to pay for it. We follow steps in this kind of car wash.
I use a hose to shoot water at my dad’s car. After that, we swirl on soap and get the car all soapy. Last, I soak the car with more water to get it clean. I did a good job!
6
People can wash cars at home, too. We need water, a hose, soap, and pails. We also need clean rags or cloths.
Water flows and soap swirls. Rags and cloths swoop in to dry. Last, we rub all the windows clean. See that nice shine?
We wash the car in my yard on the grass so that the water will soak into the ground.
7
What about vans, trucks, and buses? These big rigs get dirty, too. How can they get clean?
Big rigs need a big space for washing. Places for cleaning big trucks have huge spaces and huge hoses.
Look at cars and trucks that drive past you. Can you spot the clean ones?
