To learn about quantifiers.

To review countable nouns and uncountable nouns.

To be able to write sentences with quantifiers.

Quantifiers tell us how many/ much of something there is.

Some

We use "some" to show a quantity of something.

We usually use it with plural and uncountable nouns.

It is normally used with a positive sentence.

Example:

"I ate some rice and some eggs.

Any

We usually use "any" in questions or negative sentences.

Example:

"Do you have any mangoes?"

"Yes, I have some mangoes."

"Thanks. Do you have any bananas?

"No, I don't have any bananas".

We can also use "any" to mean "it doesn't matter which."

Example:

"You may take any toy that you like."

A lot of/ Many/ Much

"A lot of", "many" and "much" are used to show a big quantity of something.

"Many" must be used with countable nouns.

"Much" must be used with uncountable nouns.

"A lot of" may be used with countable or uncountable nouns.

"The beach has a lot of sand and a lot of people."

"The beach has so much sand and so many people.

A few/ A little

"A few" and "a little" are used to show a small quantity of something.

"A few" must be used with countable nouns.

"A little" must be used with uncountable nouns.

Example:

"I have a few brushes and a little paint."
