Vocabulary

These terms are found in the 6th grade ELA standards and can also be found in questions or writing prompts.

Write these terms in the Notes/Vocabulary section of your binder.

• what the author wants you to learn from the character

• pay attention to how the character works through a challenge or solves a problem

• sometimes the character does the WRONG thing and we learn from that

the main events that happen in a story from beginning to end

Objective Summary

RL.2

• objective - no personal opinions or judgments included

• most important events only

• events must be in order (sequence)

• begin with character and setting

what the author wants you to know or understand about a topic

Central Idea

RI.2

• underline the title - it is usually very helpful!

• determine the topic (usually 1 or 2 words) - what specifically is the passage about?

• pay attention to how the passage begins- look for the topic

• all paragraphs are like puzzle pieces. Each piece (paragraph) should connect to the central idea

retelling what the text is mostly about - central idea + important ideas
