1

What are cells?

  • All living things are made of cells!

  • Plants and animals are both made up of cells, but the cells that make up me and you look a bit different to the cells that make up a tree!

media

2

Plant and animal cells lesson outcomes:

Draw and label an animal cell

Draw and label a plant cell

media

3

Plant cells are a bit more complicated!

Plant cells look like a park!

You draw a rectangular park - this is your cell membrane.

Then you add a fence around the outside - this is your cell wall!

Draw a big lake - vacuole.

Draw some trees - chloroplasts.

Draw some dots of people out for a walk! - mitochondria

Draw a circle for a bandstand - the nucleus!

media

4

Animal cells

You can draw an animal cell by drawing a fried egg with some pepper on it!

The 'yolk' is the nucleus.

The outside of the egg is the cell membrane.

The egg white is the cytoplasm.

The pepper is the mitochondria!
