Remember, the pattern of 7 notes just repeats over and
over on the keyboard.

When memorizing the notes, it’s easiest to look at the
white keys in relation to the patterns of black keys.

Intervals

An “Interval” is the distance between two notes.

13

Start on any note, and count that note as
“1”. Keep counting in any direction, and
that is the interval.

So, if B is our starting note and we go up, C would be a
2nd away. B to C is a 2nd.

Likewise, starting on B and getting lower, B to A is also
a 2nd away. B to A is a 2nd.

B up to D is a 3rd. B down to G is a 3rd.
B up to A is a 7th. B down to C is a 7th. See the pattern?

If your starting note is "C", what note is a 3rd UP from C?
