Ch - 1 The Novel Coronavirus
Starting of the story
Ammachi and Sooraj do many things together. They cook, invent interesting machines, and make kolams. Every morning, they go for a walk to a nearby ridge. They both believe in eating healthy and living healthy.
But then, in the year 2020-2021, things changed. People had to stay indoors as there was a virus spreading! This virus was called coronavirus. 'Corona' means 'crown'. If you see the virus, you would know why. It was round with antennas sticking out like the spikes of a crown. The virus sticks to people and travels from one person to another through nose, mouth and even eyes! Then, it makes us sick. But, we all have special cells in our bodies that fight the virus off. We just need to take good care of ourselves.
Like everyone else, Ammachi and Sooraj are staying safe at home. One day, they talked to their friends online.
Ammachi said "Sooraj and I are staying safe at home, and we hope that you are too, especially if you're feeling unwell. We have decided that if either of us has a fever, a cough or difficulty breathing, we will first call up the doctor or the government helpline and then follow their instructions. Only a doctor can tell if what we have is COVID-19.

"You know what, friends? I felt a little sick yesterday, but only because I ate too many unniappams. Nowaday, everyone's confused and scared," Sooraj added. Everyone said, "Yes! You're right!"
Then Uma said exictedly, "I want to share a new song that i have written!
If you want to cough or sneeze,
Make sure you use atishoo...a tissue please!
And if a tissue can't be found,
Hurry, bring your elbow around.
Cover your mouth, cover your nose
See? I can smile with my eyebrows."
Wow! We will all remember what you are trying to tell us. I have not decided to touch my face. Morning, noon and night, I keep my hands busy. In the morning, I share seeds with the sparrows and parakeets who visit my window sill. If we don't touch our faces, then the virus can't enter our bodies from our hands and makes us sick!" added Farida.
Neema said, "I always wash my hands for twenty seconds with soap if I touch something that has come from outside. I do so while singing the 'Happy Birthday Song'. Try it! It's fun!"

Smilingly, Saif spoke, "I am so glad to see you all. I was very sad and feeling lonely. But now, I've started talking to Mama and Papa. I realise I don't have to feel locked up."
That's true! But if we ever meet people from outside, we stay at least six feet away at all times," chroused Meera and Ameera.
I have something to say. Now is not the time to roam. The park can wait for another day. Do what's right. Stay indoors, day and night. If you can, do a good deed. There are so many others who are in need. And one day, it's all going to be fine," Nani said quietly as everyone agreed.
Ammachi spoke again, "It's been so wonderful meeting you all! Sooraj and I have been missing going to the ridge. But, we are becoming creative with our exercises at home every day. Our entire family has also started meditating. This is a new way of life. But, it will make us stronger and bring us all together."
"Yes! We agree with you! Let's meet again next week!" said everyone in unison.
