What is a logarithm?

• the inverse of an exponent

• which means the logarithm of a given number x is the exponent to which another fixed number, the base b, must be raised, to produce that number x

log₂8 = 3

• Can be rewritten exponentially as 2³ = 8

• Said as "log base 2 of 8 equals 3"

• Thinking to self: "2 to what exponent will get me 8"
