What is a fraction?

A fraction is a part of a whole.

A fraction is made up of two parts, the Numerator and the Denominator. We say 1/3 as "one-thirds" and so on. In this example, we are referring to 1 part of a whole, which was divided into 3 equal parts.

Improper Fractions are Fractions in which the numerator is greater than the denominator.
For Eg - 11/3, 7/5 and so on.

Proper Fractions are Fractions in which the numerator is less than the denominator.

For Eg - 1/3, 9/11 and so on.

Different types of Fractions

Two or more Fractions having different denominators are known as Unlike Fractions.

For Eg - 3/5 and 7/12 and so on.

Two or more Fractions having the same denominators are known as Like Fractions.

For Eg - 2/4 and 7/4 and so on.

Fractions with a whole, which is followed by a fraction, is known as mixed fraction.
