The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

Can be referred to as HSW, HSWA, HASAW 1974 or HASAWA,
An Act of Parliament that sets out the framework for managing workplace health and safety in the UK.

The act defines the general duties of everyone, including employers  and employees, owners, managers and maintainers of work premises (etc) for maintaining health and safety within most workplaces.

Employer’s responsibilities;

  • Care for the health, safety and welfare of their employees, members of the general public and any contractors working in the salon.

  • Ensure all equipment meets health and safety standards (regular checks)

  • Carry out regular risk assessments ie; toxic fumes

  • Provide adequate training inc; evacuation procedures

  • Display the guidance poster within the salon
