There are four common suffixes: -ish, -ic, -ese and -ian (or sometimes -ean).

  • Suffix goes at the end of a word

  • Name of the country, nationality and language are all different (though sometimes some may be the same)

  • Ex. America, American, English

  • Ex. UAE, Emirati, Arabic

For their adjectives of place (demonyms), we add the ending -an (North/South American, European, Asian, African, Oceanian).

Finally, remember that, unlike Spanish, nationalities and languages always start with a CAPITAL LETTER, as well as towns/cities and countries.
