Past Perfect

Cách viết câu Quá khứ hoàn thành
- Thể khẳng định:
S + had + past particle
S + had + been + tính từ/danh từ

E.g. Before she became a K-pop idol, she had been a member of a well-known dance crew.
- The press wanted to know more about the director after Parasite had won the Best Picture award in 2020.

- Thể phủ định:
S + had not (hadn't) + past particle
S + had not (hadn't) + been + tính từ/danh từ
- Cách dùng
Sử dụng thì Quá khứ hoàn thành để nhấn mạnh thứ tự của chuỗi hành động trong quá khứ
- QKHT = sự việc xảy ra trước ( và xảy ra duy nhất 1 lần)
- QKĐ = sự việc xảy ra sau

Used to & Would

Cách viết câu sử dụng Used to
- Thể khẳng định:
S + used to + V-inf
S + used to be + tính từ/danh từ

E.g. Taylor Swift used to live in New York City before her family moved to Tennessee.
- An used to be a fashion journalist before she owned a fashion chain in Vietnam.

- Thể phủ định:
S + didn't use to + V-inf
S + didn't use to + be + tính từ/danh từ
- Cách dùng
"Use to" được dùng để nói về thói quen và trạng thái trong quá khứ
- Không thể sử dụng với trạng từ chỉ tần suất như usually, often, v.v
- Dùng với động từ chỉ trạng thái như like, hate, have, v.v ("would" ít dùng với các động từ này)

Used to & Would

Cách viết câu sử dụng Would
- Thể khẳng định:
- Thể phủ định không hay được sử dụng
S + would + V-inf

E.g. When Taylor Swift was 14, she would work with a songwriter for 2 hours after school on Tuesday afternoons.
In the 1930s, Hollywood stars would give regular interviews in magazines and newspaper to promote their new movies.

- Cách dùng
"Would" được dùng để nói về hành động lặp lại nhiều lần trong quá khứ
- Có thể sử dụng với trạng từ chỉ tần suất như usually, often, v.v
- Không dùng với động từ chỉ trạng thái như like, hate, have, v.v
