What is simple past?
Definition
The simple past is a verb tense that is used to talk about events or activities that happened in some point in the past and this action is already finished.
Example:

My father worked in California last year.

The Simple Past
In affirmations, the verb changes but in both negative and interrogative forms, the verb does not change due to the use of "did/didn't"

Affirmative Structure
To form affirmative sentences in simple past we need to use the following structure:
Subject + verb in simple past + complement
Example:
I went to a party yesterday.
I ate pupusas last night.

To form negative sentences in simple past we need to use the following structure:
Subject + didn't + verb in base form + complement
Example:
I didn't go to a party yesterday.
I didn't eat pupusas last night.
