This is where we will learn more about how to multiply with numbers that have more than one digit.

2

This model is used to organize the numbers into a visual box and show how much area is in each box.
Once you find your partial products, add up your answers to find your final product, or the main answer.

Area Model

50 x 30 = 1500

2 x 30 = 60

50 x 5 = 250

2 x 5 = 10

52 x 35

= (50+2) x (30+5)

1500+60=1560

250+10=260

1 5 6 0
+ 2 6 0
1 8 2 0

A partial product is a product of two numbers obtained when we break the numbers into parts, multiply the parts separately and then add them together.

Partial Product Method: Vertical
