In general, the product of a 'm x n' matrix A with a 'n x p' matrix B is the 'm x p' matrix AB. The number of columns has to be equal to the amount of rows for the multiplication to occur. For instance :

  • 1 x 2 by a 2 x 3 gives a 1 x 3

  • 1 x 2 by a 2 x 1 gives a 1 x 1​

  • 2 x 1 by a 1 x 2 gives a 2 x 2 ​
