Today’s Scenario
2
What do
you do?
You are trying to lead a class
discussion, but most students are
just sitting there in silence, or
messing around on their phones and
many students are not participating.
You tried calling on a student or two,
but they are only giving you one-or
two word answers, or they are saying
they just don’t know....
3
What do
you do?
You have just handed back the first
test. One student raises his hand and
argues that the test questions were
not like what they did in class. Now,
the rest of the students are joining in
and complaining that the test isn’t
fair, and that they were not well
prepared.
4
What do
you do?
A student tells you that it is
important for her to get a good
grade, and her partner isn’t doing
anything to help her with the
assignment/project. She feels it is
unfair for him to receive the same
grade, since she did the work.
5
What do
you do?
Tori will frequently become upset
over her grades and will ask for extra
credit. While you typically are
supportive of someone seeking extra
opportunities, she always gets As and
is worried about a few points. Tori
always seems stressed and you know
there is a lot of pressure at home to
do well.
6
What do
you do?
You have students sitting in tables of
4. At one table, one of the more
fidgety kids is pestering one of the
other students. (taking things off of
her desk, staring at her paper etc).
You have warned the students to
stop, but the pestering has not
stopped.
7
What do
you do?
Your evaluator walks in....
Emilio often looks bored in class, and
today, like many days, he finished his
work long before the others. He
consistently gets As on tests and
projects. He is always on his phone
when he is done, or he is working on
work for other classes. Other
students notice.
8
What do
you do?
George is a know-it-all and calls
attention to your mistakes during
class. Kids are annoyed with him, and
you are embarrassed when he does
this; this makes you uneasy and
question yourself sometimes when
teaching or writing on the board and
you feel like you are being constantly
monitored.
9
What do
you do?
After your lesson, you realize you
gave some wrong information. How
do you maintain credibility and at the
same time correct the mistake?
10
What do
you do?
You have one or two students that
tend to dominate class discussion.
You do not like to cold call on
students in class, but you feel like a
lot of students just let the others talk
so they don’t have to, or don’t feel
comfortable speaking up.
*An evaluator walks in....
