DRAMATIC DEVICES
Dramatic devices are elements used by writers in plays or scripts to create drama, tension, and emotion.
They are crucial in conveying character emotions, advancing the plot, creating suspense, and enhancing the overall theatrical experience.
We will explore some of the many different dramatic devices

Aside
Soliloquy
Rhyme
Foreshadowing
pathetic fallacy
Dramatic Irony
3
ASIDE
An aside is a short comment or speech that a character delivers directly to the audience, or to himself, while other actors on the stage appear not to hear. Only the audience knows that the character has said something to them.
4
SOLILOQUY
A soliloquy is a literary device in the form of a speech or monologue spoken by a single character in a theatrical play or drama. The purpose of a soliloquy is for the character to express their inner thoughts and feelings that are not intended to be heard or known by other characters in the play or the audience members. it is longer than an aside
5
Difference between Aside & Soliloquy
Another difference is that an aside reveals hidden secrets or judgments,
whereas
the soliloquy reveals motives, inner thoughts, or internal struggles going on in the mind of the character
6
RHYME
Rhyme is a literary device, featured particularly in poetry, in which identical or similar concluding syllables in different words are repeated. Rhyme most often occurs at the ends of poetic lines. In addition, rhyme is principally a function of sound rather than spelling.
Writers use rhymes as a way to create sound patterns in order to emphasize certain words and their relationships with others in an artistic manner
7
FORESHADOWING
Foreshadowing is a literary device that writers utilize as a means to indicate or hint to readers something that is to follow or appear later in a story. Foreshadowing, when done properly, is an excellent device in terms of creating suspense and dramatic tension for readers.
It can set up emotional expectations of character behaviors and/or plot outcomes. This can heighten a reader’s enjoyment of a literary work, enhance the work’s meaning, and help the reader make connections with other literature and literary themes
8
PATHETIC FALLACY
Pathetic fallacy is a literary device that attributes human qualities and emotions to inanimate objects of nature.
The word pathetic in the term is not used in the derogatory sense of being miserable; rather, it stands for “imparting emotions to something else.”
9
DRAMATIC IRONY
Dramatic Irony is more of a vicarious violation of expectations or knowledge. In other words, the reader/audience is aware of pertinent information or circumstances of which the actual characters are not. Therefore, the reader is left in suspense or conflict until the situation or information is revealed to the characters involved.
For example, a reader may be aware of a superhero’s true identity whereas other characters may not know that information.
Dramatic irony allows a reader the advantage of knowing or understanding something that a particular character or group of characters does not.
