Townshend Duties
Duty means a tax.
These were indirect taxes on paint, paper, tea, and a variety of other goods.
The colonists were unwilling to pay the tax, and began to boycott these import taxes.
All Townshend Duties were repealed except the tax on Tea.

The Intolerable Acts
As a result of the Boston Tea Party, Parliament passes the Intolerable Acts
Colonists begin to organize into The First Continental Congress to address The Intolerable Acts.

The Intolerable Acts
Consisted on 4 acts:
1) Boston Port Act- Closed Boston Harbor that relied on imports to make money.
2) Massachusetts Government Act- Restricted Town meetings and turned the Governor's council into a appointed body from Britain. Preventing the colonists from appointing their own government.

The Intolerable Acts
3) Administration Government Act- made British troops immune to any criminal prosecution.
4) The Quartering Act- 1765. Parliament passed this act that allowed for 10,000 British troops to permenantly be stationed in the colonies for "protection of the colonies."
Colonists viewed this as an insult since the French and the Spainish were gone and they colonist felt they could handle the Native Americans in the area.
