Music is written on five lessons which are called a stave.

String instruments can use something different. This is called TAB (Tabulature)

If the TAB has six line it is used for guitar, if it has four lines it is used for Bass.

However

The treble clef, places G above middle C.
Middle C is the C with one line through it.
All this information tells you what notes to play at which pitch.
