Indonesia to introduce QRIS Payment System in Singapore

Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo announced on Thursday, October 19, 2023, that the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system would officially be introduced in Singapore starting from November 2023.

 

"Insya Allah, QRIS will start to operate in Singapore in November. It will allow us to easily make transactions at various retail stores, just by carrying our mobile phones wherever we go," he said during a press conference in Jakarta.

 

Before that, BI conducted a trial of the QRIS system in Singapore on August 17, 2023. This initiative was a gift from BI to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Indonesia

Indonesia changes rules as
Jokowi's son expected to run for election

​Indonesia changed the rules for people who can run for president and vice president elections on Monday. Its Constitutional Court decided in Jakarta that people need to be at least 40 years old or won an election for a public job before.

This change could allow President Joko Widodo's son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, to join the presidential election. Many people think that the 36-year-old son, who is also the Mayor of Surakarta City, wants to run for president in 2024. He might be the partner of the Defense Minister, Prabowo Subianto

"With this decision, the law on general elections will now read as follows: a minimum age of 40 years or having held an elected position through general elections, including regional leaders," said Chief Judge Anwar Usman.

The chief judge is also president's brother-in-law. It caused more criticism towards the President, better known as Jokowi. Jokowi said he did not try to create a political family dynasty. He added the people should choose their own leader.
