KEY DEFINITIONS
Font:
A combination of various attributes that dictate how text characters appear. A
specific font is defined by character spacing, size, pitch, serifs, etc. Times New Roman
and Arial are both examples of fonts.
Font Case:
The case in which letters are displayed. The two types of font cases are
uppercase and lowercase. ABC are uppercase letters and abc are lowercase letters.
Font Style:
The particular style(s) applied to a font. For example, the Arial font can
have Bold, Regular, Italic, or Bold Italic styles applied to it.

Sans Serif Font:
A font that uses a typeface without serifs. Examples include Arial and
Century Gothic.
Serif Font:
A font that uses small lines or decorative strokes at the ends of each
character. Examples include Times New Roman and Garamond.
Subscript:
A distinguishing character that is written slightly below other characters.
Superscript:
A distinguishing character that is written slightly above other characters.

Text Effects:
A visual effect that can be applied to text, including shadow, outline,
reflection, and glow.
Text Highlight Color:
A font formatting option that adds a bright color behind the text.
Highlighting can be useful in marking up notes or drawing the reader’s attention to
certain passages within a paper draft.
