  • The term curriculum is derived from the Latin word “Currere” which means “to run”.

  • For any educational programme to be successful it is very essential that it has a strong and effective curriculum.

  • The successful completion and quality of education depends upon the quality of curriculum.

  • Curriculum therefore plays a pivotal role in our educational system and we need to work strongly on it.

  • A curriculum is a plan of learning consisting of two major dimensions; vision and structure. Vision in a curriculum is the product of a set of assumptions about people and the world at large and takes the form of some conceptualisation of reality. Any curriculum always contains a set of value-laden assumptions about the purpose of education in our society.

  • Curriculum should provide learning experiences in such a way that the learner can connect the knowledge he/she gains with the outside world. It should provide him with a strong knowledge base of the subjects and help him in its practical application. It should equip learners with the skills and competencies that would help them contribute for the development of society and nation and thereby become responsible citizens. Along with all these, the curriculum should also help promote development of values and a variety of interests, attitudes and aptitudes essential for learner development and success.
