Expectations for Passengers

Vehicles are made to take you places.
Examples of vehicles include cars, buses, trains, airplanes, boats, and more!
In the vehicle, the driver makes sure the vehicle travels safely from one place to another.

8
My first responsibility is to never distract the driver.
The driver needs to keep all of their attention and focus on driving in order to stay safe.
If my behavior is unexpected, the driver needs to pay attention to me, instead of the job of driving, and that is extremely dangerous!
I can read, chat, draw, quietly use my phone, nap or think when I am riding in a vehicle.
I Never Distract the Driver

13
Most vehicles have a very specific schedule they need to follow.
When one vehicle has to wait for a passenger, it can create problems for all the other vehicles.
As soon as I receive an instruction to get on or get off of a vehicle, I do it right away.
Getting on or off a vehicle right on time makes sure that every vehicle can follow its schedule.
I Arrive and Leave on Time

"It is important to get on the vehicle as soon as I am told because ___."
18
Usually, there is more than one passenger riding in a vehicle.
I need to show respect for other passengers by avoiding fighting, arguing, annoying people, or anything else that might frustrate another passenger.
If I am annoying other passenger, the driver may have to stop focusing on their job to get involved in stopping our argument. This is unsafe for everyone!
I will focus on myself for the ride and have only expected social behavior.
I Respect Other Passengers

22
In most vehicles, I will be expected to stay seated with my seatbelt on at all times.
The seatbelt makes sure that I do not get badly hurt if the vehicle is in an accident.
When riding in a vehicle, I never put my hand, foot, or head out the window. A passing object might break it right off!
I only open the door if the vehicle has stopped and the driver has given me permission.

Different vehicles will have different control panels.
They might be called a dashboard in a car, or a cockpit in a plane.
It takes many years of special training to learn to operate the control panels of a vehicle.
Unless I have been trained and have a license to touch the control panel, I never touch it.
